COMING SOON TO THE GALLERY AT TRADE DESIGN BUILD:
Building Ownership:
Manufactured Housing and an Architecture of Affordability
Public opening date : June / TBA
Location: Trade Design Build / 1520 Trumansburg Road (Rt. 96), Ithaca, NY
This exhibition, Building Ownership : Manufactured Housing and an Architecture of Affordability, highlights a selection of design proposals from ARCH 5114, Integrative Design Practices Studio / Building Ownership, a semester long Cornell AAP course led by Felix Heisel + Michael Jefferson. Building Ownership is an investigation of the potential of manufactured homes as an affordable pathway to homeownership : organized in 2 scenarios, a single-wide home parked on an existing lot in the current settings of MingleWood Park near Trumansburg, and a 13-unit park extension investigating the potential of the developed typology in a neighborhood setting.
Each of the twelve design proposals include different scales and aspects ranging from community / neighborhood planning to wall sections, material selection and HVAC implementation. These designs also consider the special legal, financial and spatial constraints and opportunities of manufactured homes as a typology for affordable residential construction.
With the presentation of this exhibition, Building Ownership, we hope to foster community interest and conversation regarding new possibilities for affordable ownership of manufactured housing.
