ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY
Stan Taft received a BFA degree with a concentration in painting from the California College of Arts and Crafts in 1967 and a MFA degree in painting from Fort Wright College in 1969. He has taught at the State University of New York, College at Purchase, was Artist in Residence at the University of Iowa and has taught in the Art Department at Cornell University since 1985.
Stan has received a project grant from the Institute for Studies in the Arts at Arizona State University with collaborator John Zissovici, resulting in exhibitions of the installation “For Bright Field Observation” at Arizona State University and at the Phoenix Art Museum and “Robotic Photographs” at the International Conference on Science and Art in Beijing, China.
Publications include co-authorship of articles on the analysis of artist pigments in the journal of the Materials Research Society and is principal author with James Mayer of “The Science of Paintings” published by Springer-Verlag.
Solo exhibitions include those at the Josef Gallery in New York City and the Parnas Gallery in Los Angeles, and “Cloud Chamber” in the Hartell Gallery at Cornell University. “Still” with Chris Scarborough at the Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA, “Figurative Realism: Narrative Painting” at the State University of New York College at Cortland, the Alex Rosenberg Gallery and Styria Gallery in New York City, the Davidson Gallery in Seattle, Convergence Gallery in San Francisco, the Museum of Contemporary Arts, Baltimore, and the American Center for Physics in Washington, DC.
